We are a math tutoring service focused on instilling a love and interest in math for all students in elementary, middle, high school, and college. As parents of elementary school children, we understand that patience, grace, and empathy are just as important as mastery of the subject; we promise to take the same approach in teaching your kids as we do in teaching ours. We will not introduce new concepts without ensuring they are ready, and will proceed at a pace that is instructive, challenging, and engaging.
We are different from the common national tutoring services with rooms full of students, completing worksheet after worksheet. Instead, we teach one-on-one or in very small groups, and emphasize instruction and explanation of concepts. This approach helps to spark genuine interest and curiosity in children, not only in math but to learning in general.

What makes us different?
We believe that many students grow to dislike math because much of the instruction is based on repetition and memorization rather than concepts and a true understanding of basic principles. Since all math is built upon simpler concepts, we emphasize going to the "root" idea before progressing to more advanced topics. We focus on the fundamental big concepts (roots and branch) to ensure the details (leaves) can be mastered.
Our Mission
While we know that most one-on-one and small group tutoring is expensive, we have intentionally kept our rates reasonable because we want all students to have the opportunity to excel in math. Also, the intuitive, logical approach to studying math and being able to "think systematically" through challenging problems, all while conquering something that few others have, is a tremendous skill in any field, and a huge confidence boost. Ready to take the next step in your learning journey? Contact us to begin an enriching learning experience tailored just for your child. And feel free to reach out if you just have some questions!
What We Believe
We believe that every child is made in the image of God and has immense potential for reasoning, creativity, and academic excellence with the right guidance. We prioritize teaching math with an emphasis on true comprehension. As an example, rather than simply giving students the equation to calculate the circumference of a circle (C = 2 π r), we explain that all circles, whether it be the rings around Saturn or the tire on your car, have a beautiful and interesting property about them. If you measure the distance around any circle and compare it to its diameter, the ratio is always the same fascinating and mysterious number called π (3.1415…). We believe this emphasis on comprehension rather than on memorizing formulas and steps, is the key to sparking children’s interest not just in math but in the amazing universe around them!

Sure! We grew up here in Oklahoma City, attended the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (OSSM) for high school, and went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor's and Master's in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Physics. We love math, received perfect scores on the ACT Math section and the GRE Math section, and completed Calculus 1 through 4, Differential Equations, and Linerar Algebra by the time we completed High School. We interned at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in California and ExxonMobil in Texas. We have also worked as Engineers, Chief Engineers, and Senior Engineering Managers in industry. From helping to design telescopes and satellite dishes at NASA, to developing data algorithms at ExxonMobil, to modernizing Bombers at Boeing, our unique experience in academia and in industry allows us to not only teach your students math, but also be a positive role model and mentor to them. This is a responsibility we take very seriously. See About Us for more information.

No, this service is for all students, including those that may be doing fine in their math classes. Because our approach is based on intuition and conceptual understanding, we are able to reinforce concepts taught in the classroom in a way that sparks even deeper interest. It also prepares those students for more advanced math they will encounter as they continue their education, giving them additional confidence and skill.

Yes! Starting with our own kids, who are in a blended classroom / homeschool program. We teach them weekly with their school math lessons. We have also tutored nephews, nieces, cousins, and close friends. Seeing the lightbulb go off in a student who was previously struggling in math is an incredibly rewarding experience. We have been able to make a big impact in these students’ lives and have been told repeatedly that we need to expand tutoring to the broader community. This is one of the reasons we have decided to start Take Flight Tutoring!

Yes, during the summer we not only review the previous school year’s material to ensure students fully grasp key concepts, but we also teach important concepts that will be covered in the coming school year. Students are able to go into the new school year with the confidence of knowing they already understand the material that will be covered!

Absolutely not! Having math as a skill is like having a superpower. It gives students confidence in any academic setting they are in. Since so few students truly have a mastery of it, being in the small group that does is an extra boost of self confidence that spreads over into many other areas of life! Also, the analytic skills, problem solving techniques, and the ability to think through math problems systematically are skills that will make your child a better doctor, lawyer, entrepreneur, geologist, chemist, or whatever else they chose to pursue.

Unfortunately the "big box" tutoring services rely on one major technique to teach math: repetition. While lots of worksheets and math problems may help a student improve their math score for an upcoming exam, we believe it's actually a very poor way to teach math. This is for two reasons.
First, students have a high likelihood of developing a dislike for math. Put yourself in your child's shoes; if you were forced to do worksheet after worksheet of monotonous repetitive math problems, would you enjoy math?
The second reason is that math is more easily understood with an emphasis on concepts and reasoning. Our approach to math is to show students why they are solving a problem the way they are. It makes learning way more fun and empowering!

100% of our classes will be taught by one of us, and we do not have any other instructors hired. We are passionate about teaching math, and this is not something that we are offloading to others. It is our mission to see your children grow to their FULL potential, and blessed to be a part of helping them excel!

Small Group Sessions
(2 - 10 children per class)
If you have classmates in your grade that would like to join you, we offer a small group option at $145 per month per student, and $95 for each additional sibling. This includes a 60-minute teaching lesson each week. These classes are smaller in size than the national math tutoring chains and lower in price; we will focus on conceptual learning and meaningful instruction rather than memorization and worksheets.Individual Tutoring
(1 child per class)Customized, individual lessons are offered at $275 per month, which includes a 60-minute one-on-one tutoring session every week. Individual tutoring for each additional sibling is $195 per month. These lessons will be tailored specifically for the student, and will focus on individualized instruction.
We have found that students make great progress using our lessons once a week. However, if you would like to sign your child up for lessons more frequently, just let us know.
We also offer week-to-week and hourly options. No long-term contracts or commitments required — we’re flexible to meet your needs.
